ABOUT ULRIKE WELSCH

Career

Ulrike Welsch was born in Germany. Since 1972 Ulrike Welsch has been a staff photographer with the Boston Globe, for which she also writes a monthly photography column, and since 1966 has also been a staff photographer for the Boston Herald Traveler.

In addition, Ulrike Welsch taught photojournalism at Essex Photographic Workshop in Essex and at Harvard University Center for Lifelong Learning in Cambridge, both in Massachusetts.

The photographer describes her work as creative photojournalism. Ulrike Welsch likes to photograph people in common places and portray a touch of life. In 1978-1979 she spent seven months in South America photographing the people of the Andes.

Achievements

  • Ulrike Welsch was named Press Photographer of the Year in New England in 1974 by the Boston Press Photographers Association.
