ARTIST OF THE DAY: MY FAVORITE WOMEN ARTISTS OF 2020

ABOUT POSTING MY FAVORITE WOMEN ARTISTS OF 2020

For the last year, I have created one post per day (I missed a few days here and there) that featured an artist of varying genres, but I focused my attention on abstract artists. I was invested in doing this because it created structure for me, something I need. Structure grounds me and allows me (as a VIRGO) to make lists and check off what I have accomplished each day. It’s a sacred ritual, like prayer. By creating this sort of structure, I am made accountable for the goals I set that are intended to lead me toward my dreams. Today, I post 12 of some of the most inspiring women artists that stir something so deep within that I am left joyously speechless and in awe. These women (and man) are:

Lee Krasner

Perle Fine

Mary Abbott

Helen Frankenthaler

Sonia Getchoff

Grace Hartigan

Anya Speilman

Ethel Schwabacher

Joan Mitchell

Hilma Alf Klint

Betty Parsons

Daniele Scheisberg

ABOUT SETTING GOALS

Many people have asked me HOW I accomplish my GOALS LIST each year. Here is my strategy:

SPEAK & WRITE THE GOAL and determine why it’s important to me and how it will manifest itself in my life.

CREATE A TIMELINE: I “time” myself each day when working on a goal. I used to say, “I’ll spend 2 hours doing X or from 8 AM - 12 PM I’ll do Y.” But what has helped me gain momentum is setting a timer for 15 minutes each time I begin a task as a way to temper the anxiety of feeling like i don’t have 2 - 4 hours per day to do one specific thing. For example, my workout schedule has been set at 3 - 4 days per week, between 30 minutes and 1 hour of my time in the early mornings on those days. If I can’t meet that expectation, I substitute the activity with a 5 - 6 mile bike ride or walk.

BE A MEMBER OF THE “No Matter What Club”: I am a member of THE HOPE SALAS NO MATTER WHAT CLUB. It means what it says - that NO MATTER WHAT (if it’s in the realm of possibility of me achieving it), it WILL be done.

MAKE A GOAL MAP IN MY DAILY CALENDAR : I list everything I do each day so that I can see what I need to do the next day that will aid me in achieving my goals by X date.

ASK for HELP: I reach out to professionals, friends, family, & colleagues who can teach me NEXT LEVEL skills so that I can do better, get stronger, gain skills and widen my lens.

DECIDE TO BE HAPPY

GIVING THANKS

So, here’s to the WOMEN (people) of 2020 who have inspired me, believed in me, helped me along the way, who loved me through some really scary times, who celebrated me, who forgave me, who tested my strength of character and will power; here’s to those who included me when they knew I felt marginalized, to the women who stood up for me; for the people who said I could “do it” hands down, to those who lifted me up when I fell to my knees (it isn’t often but when I do, I have these people who extend their hands to me and raise me higher than where I stood before the fall); here’s to new & old relationships; here’s to lifelong friendships (I am one of the fortunate who have such people in my life); here’s to my Godchild who teaches me about the best parts of me and allows me to love in ways I could have only dreamed; here’s to my cousin, Bill, who stands by me and holds me in great esteem (as I do him); here’s to those I pray with and with whom I stand in my most vulnerable, naked truth; here’s to being healthy; here’s to knowing what it feels to be loved and cared about; here’s to remaining COVID-19 free; here’s to this moment right now; here’s to tomorrow and figuring out that I will be a better person than I am today (I have many foibles and personal defects that I will continue to attend to); and to my mother who looked at me like I was really something….like I was somebody; and to my father, Frank, who is my friend. I am fortunate. I am blessed. I have abundance. I am grateful.

QUOTE BY ELEANOR ROOSEVELT

“Do whatever comes your way to do as well as you can. Think as little as possible about yourself and as much as possible about other people…put a good deal of thought into the happiness that you are able to give.”

WHAT I WISH FOR YOU TODAY

A BLESSED & HAPPY & HEALTHY NEW YEAR!
